FELDENKRAIS
What is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais® Method is an approach that works with the nervous system's capacity for change, learning new patterns for moving, feeling, and thinking. The principles originate from the marshal arts and survival techniques and invoke in us how to learn. Developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, a Russian born Israeli educator, scientist and physicist as well as the first Caucasian Judo master trained by Kano, the originator of Judo, Moshe understood how to facilitate organic learning. The approach uses physical movement to focus learning on the connection of thought and action. It is known for its ability to improve posture and flexibility and alleviate muscular tension and pain.
There are two approaches in working with the Feldenkrais Method: Awareness Through Movement ® and Functional Integration ®. ATM classes consist of verbally directed, pleasurable, and effortless exercise lessons involving highly sophisticated movement sequences. FI is a one-on-one process that involves the use of specific skilled touch and passive movement. Feldenkrais is known for its ability to address serious muscular and neurological problems and improve human functioning.
"I recommend the Feldenkrais Method to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help all of us feel more comfortable in our bodies."
- Dr. Andrew Weil, author of "8 Weeks to Optimum Healing"
"[Feldenkrais] is the most sophisticated and effective method I have seen for the prevention and reversal of deterioration of function."
- Margaret Mead, Ph.D., Anthropologist
"Feldenkrais is not just pushing muscles around; it's changing things in the brain itself."
-
Karl Pribram, MD, PhD, neuroscientist

You will learn to relieve pain and improve your movement and function in general. The sessions are designed to provide a gentle yet powerful approach to freeing yourself from physical limitations and mindsets that dominate your life.
- You will learn how to perform daily activities with greater ease and comfort.
- You will start becoming aware of your habitual patterns in movement.
- Develop more options beyond muscling through life with will power alone.
With ATM lessons you will learn to honor your own experience and pacing, becoming more aware and confident at ‘learning to learn’ for yourself instead of being taught.
- Classes are open to all ages and abilities.
- The classes are gentle, everyone can participate and move at his/her own pace.
